This time round I had the opportunity to try out a new vintage inspired Italian leather strap by vario.sg. This is the second version of vintage inspired Italian leather strap that they have made. The first one was release in 2019 and you can find my review in one of the links at the end of this post.
This model is made from premium calf leather from Italy. The leather material is soft and comfortable on the wrist. It is specially crafted to achieve a slightly distressed effect which gives it an aged look that people nowadays prefer. This particular look is very versatile as it can be mounted on dress watches as well as military and pilot watches.
The strap measures 115mm at the long end and 75mm at the short end. It has a thickness of 3mm thick throughout its entire length (unpadded).
Here, I have three specimens (Pewter Grey, Mocha Brown and Tan Brown). They have same colour stitching along the edges as shown below.
As a vintage inspired strap, it tapers 4mm from the lug end to the buckle end. The specimens I have are 20mm at the lug end and 16mm at the buckle end.
At the back of the strap is a layer of soft leather which makes it comfortable to wear. It has the Vario brand name and “Genuine Italian Leather” wordings stamped on it. The strap comes with quick release spring bars for easy installation.
The ones I have come with a polished stainless steel buckle that bears the Vario name. You can select other buckle options on vario’s website when placing your order.
Below are some pictures of the straps on my vintage inspired watches.
Mocha Brown installed on the Tissot Petite Seconde
Slightly distressed Mocha Brown matches very well with the vintage style Tissot watch.
Pewter Grey installed on the Longines Big Eye
Grey colour always go well with pilot style watches. Here, the slightly distressed grey leather adds a little ruggedness to the Longine Big Eye.
Tan Brown installed on the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical
Tan Brown matches very well with the white dial and the faux patina lume.
Final thoughts:
Below are some points that I like about the strap:
1. Aged look that makes it workable on dress watches and military/pilot watches.
2. I prefer the strap to taper down by 4mm on my vintage/vintage inspired watches.
3. Soft and comfortable leather.
