Seiko has discontinued a number of 6R15 models and at the same time released a couple of new models using the same movement. This time round, I had the opportunity to handle a recent model from the Mechanical line. This model, SARG005 is powered by the 6R15 movement and looks very much like the 6R15 Alpinist model due to its case shape, inner compass bezel and crown at the 4 o’clock position.

This time round, I had the opportunity to take a look at this Solar powered diver from Seiko. This watch is released in Japan under the Prospex line with model number SBDJ007. Here in Singapore, it’s model number is SNE293P. It is powered with the V157 movement which is made in Japan (as indicated by “Movement Japan” on caseback). Here’s a quick photo review.

I finally bought another Grand Seiko after 7 years. My previous GS purchase was the SBGR029 and it was way back in 2006.
This time round, I went for the 100th Year of Watchmaking commemorative model, SBGR081.The watch comes with a metal bracelet but I put it on a leather strap as soon as I brought it home.

Had the opportunity to handle the new Spring Drive tuna yesterday. This watch is one of many models that were released to commemorate Seiko’s 100th year of watchmaking anniversary. It is limited to 300 pieces and I hope to see Seiko release a regular edition within one to two years from now.
This specimen belongs to somebody and I only managed to take a couple of quick and dirty cellphone shots. Let’s take a look.

Here are some photos of the “100 years of watchmaking” limited edition monster. It is a limited edition model but other than the standard six digit serial number on its caseback, there is no unique serial number in the usual “XXXX/YYYY” format that Seiko used to have for their limited edition watches.
At this point, it is not known how many pieces were made.

I notice an increase in Seiko 5 models that come with compass bezel these days compared to the old days when they were powered by the 7S36 movement. I think Seiko probably release one in every few months. Here’s a recent model that I handled. This model comes in regular edition as well as limited edition variants. This particular model (SSA113J) is limited to 500 pieces.
