Seiko Solar Diver – SNE293P

This time round, I had the opportunity to take a look at this Solar powered diver from Seiko. This watch is released in Japan under the Prospex line with model number SBDJ007. Here in Singapore, it’s model number is SNE293P. It is powered with the V157 movement which is made in Japan (as indicated by “Movement Japan” on caseback). Here’s a quick photo review.

  1. Very interesting watch, but somehow I can’t get past the TAG Heuer-ish rotating bezel with the raised 10-minute markers. πŸ™‚ The jet black dial is however, lovely and sort of reminds me of my Sportura SLT037P Perpetual Calender (8F56). It’s good to know that Seiko is serious with their expanded Solar range of watches, unlike in the past when they were more interested in pushing their Kinetic models.

Equally interesting is Seiko’s recent move to introduce the SNE293P in Japan as the SBDJ007 and being part of their Prospex lineup. Traditionally JDM Seiko watches don’t have an equivalent international export model and vice versa.

thanks for posting this, Thomas! πŸ™‚

    • I think it depends on the model. Since this is more like a low cost, mass market model, they might as well sell it internationally. Don’t know why they need a different model number though. SBDX001 is available at the Thong Sia Seiko boutique as SBDX001.

  2. I have this watch, was given to me as a replacement for my 009 under warranty (it was kaput). It’s OK, but I wish I could change the bezel – too “blingy” for me. The rubber strap is very uncomfortable compared to previous Seiko rubber straps.
