Citizen Promaster Diver – NY0125-83E

Here is a Citizen diver that I purchased recently. This watch was first released in Japan and was subsequently made available in other parts of the world. It was announced by Citizen Singapore in January 2022 and released in February 2022. The difference between the model sold in Singapore and the Japan model is that it has English/Chinese instead of English/Kanji day wheel.

This watch has a diameter of 41mm (excluding crown) and lug width of 20mm. Thickness is 13.7mm which is a little on the thick side but not a deal breaker for me. Seiko King Turtle and 62MAS (6R version) are both 13.2mm thick according to the specifications listed on their website.

The watch is powered by the Miyota 8204 movement which comes with hack and handwind features. I know this is not Citizen’s premium automatic movement like the 9051 but this is only an entry level diver as reflected by its price. It is fitted with a mineral glass crystal which is to be expected of an entry level diver.

The watch has brushed finishing all over, from the top of the case to the sides and the caseback. The 60-click bezel has polished finishing and has gold plating on it.

Here are the reasons why I purchased this watch:

  • The 41mm diameter suits my current preference. It is very wearable compared to other divers that I have owned before including the Autozilla.
  • It is automatic and has a traditional dive watch design. The gilt dial is very legible and gives the watch a vintage feel.
  • It is a 200m ISO certified dive watch.

The watch comes with a nice metal bracelet but I’m not a bracelet user and so I am wearing it on the ballistic nylon Zulu strap from vario.sg. This strap is soft yet strong enough to support the weight of the watch. It comes with thick rings that match the heft of the watch case.

You can see some pictures of the original metal bracelet at the end of this post. It is quite well made with solid end links and a nice folding clasp. It even has a ratcheting diver extension with push button release.

Above: crystal is slightly curved along its edge
Above: crystal creates dial distortion effect (3 o’clock to 8 ‘clock hour markers).
Above: lume is brighter than this in real life.

  1. Thanks for the review. Can I check what’s the lug to lug for this watch? A YouTube review stated it as 51mm but it appears smaller than that

  2. A cheap but very appetizing diver. Nothing is said about what the bezel is made of, for the price I assume an aluminum insert. Excellent pictures. One of the best found on the net in this type of blog.

  3. I just purchased one of these myself and am awaiting its arrival. I don’t go too much over 40mm but I have a 7.25 in wrist so I think it should be fine. I have a Vostok that’s about 41mm but that’s the only watch of that size I own so I’ll be looking to compare. For me the sweet spot is 34-39mm.
