Orient GMT with hack and handwind – DJ02003W

The Orient GMT finally reach our market here in Singapore and I had the opportunity to handle this white dial model the moment it was taken out of the shipping carton.

This is an international model with hack and handwind as well as a GMT hand that can be set independently. Let’s take a look.

This watch features an “all dial” design with Roman hour markers for 6, 9 and 12.

The dial is divided into four parts namely:
1. The centre part in which the Orient logo, date window, power reserve sub dial and inscriptions are placed.
2. The power reserver sub dial under the 12 o’clock marker
3. An outer part that contains the hour markers.
4. A non-rotatable 24 hour index ring.

Besides the 24 hour index ring, the rest of the dial are nicely textured as you can see in the picture below. Above the dial is a flat Sapphire crystal.

Here’s how watch works:

Crown at pushed in position: manual winding by turning clockwise.
Crown at first click position: Set date by turning clockwise. Set GMT hand by turning anti-clockwise.
Crown at second click position: Set hour, minute and second hands.

The GMT hand moves as you set the hour and minute hands. Hence you should set the time first before setting the GMT hand.

The watch comes with a see-through caseback with “Made in Japan” inscribed.

The watch is powered by a newly developed 40P51 movement. You can see some light decorations on the movement in the picture below.

Most parts of the case has polished finishing. Below is a side profile shot showing the polished side and unsigned crown.

Here’s the bracelet with butterfly folding clasp, push button release and solid endlinks.

Here’s another dial shot.

Diameter: 40.5mm
Lug width: 20mm
Thickness: 15mm
Water resistant: 50m

  3. beautiful dial. I have a Orient that keeps great time and would love to have this model as well. Any prices yet and can we get this one in the US?

  5. The devil is in the details. Orient has another winner with this dress watch. I love the different textures used on the dial. Absolutely stunning. Hands are sized right. Diameter is perfect for the intended purpose. Deployant clasp matches watch perfectly. Handwinding and hacking movement complemented with perlage design and signed rotor. I wonder if Orient will come out with a gold version on leather strap for this model.

    • Hi Jun.

I doubt there will be a gold version. Closest you can get is the two tone version on bracelet. The gold hands and hour markers make it more legible IMO.

      Best regards,

  11. Got it for 294 euros (in black), looks outrageously good (pictures don’t do it justice), wears bigger than is actually is because there is almost no bezel and the dial take up the whole face of the watch, but it’s still dressy and understated (just like I wish), not that precise(about +25~30sec/day; but that is not so important), and the bearing noise it makes when the rotor moves only adds to the flavor of having a mechanical watch
