This time round, I had the opportunity to handle the new Seiko Prospex Mobile Suit Gundam 40th Anniversary limited edition divers – SLA029J1 and SLA031J1. They are based on the Emperor Tuna which has a water resistance of 1000m.
The green model represents Zaku II while the red one represents Char’s Zaku II. Both models are each limited to 1000 pieces and each piece has a unique serial number.
They are shipped to the dealers in pairs with the same serial number. In addition, each watch comes with a pair of thermo bottles. A pair of watch will come with four bottles.
Below are some pictures of the watches.
There are some engravings found on the shroud. The red model is engraved with “MS-06S” while the green model is engraved with “MS-06”.
Besides these, there is an arrow and “Lock” engraving near the crown to indicate the locking direction of the screw in crown.
Instead of the “X” logo of the Seiko Prospex, both crowns are signed with a different symbol. I suppose the symbols represent their respective Zaku II robot.
The lume shots below show that the watches have lume material applied to the markings on the bezel up the the 20 second mark.
Diameter: 52mm
Thickness: 17.2mm
Lug width: 22mm
Water resistance: 1000m
Movement: 8L35
Final thoughts:
The SLA029J1 and SLA031J1 are basically new variants of the Emperor Tuna apart from the engravings on the shroud and lines on the dial. If you are a fan of Mobile Suit Gundam, you may consider buying a pair for collection since they have the same serial number.
If you are not a fan but simply like one of the colours, you should get the one you like. The green one has a matte finished shroud and has a military feel to it. The red one has a glossy shroud and is more eye catching. If you prefer a less fanciful style, get the SBDX013 or SBDX011.
