Seiko Kinetic Diver – SKA579P2

This time round, I had the opportunity to handle this Seiko Kinetic diver which was released a few months ago in Singapore. This watch looks familiar because the standard black, pepsi, yellow and orange variants have been released a few years ago and have been nicknamed “BFK” aka Big Freaking Kinetic by collectors online. These BFK variants were powered by the 5M62 movement while the latest variants came with the newer 5M82 movement.

Ignoring bracelet/strap variants, here are the 5M62 models (hope I did not miss out any of them)

SKA369P / SBCZ013

SKA371P / SBCZ011

Note: SKA models are international models while SBCZ models are Japan domestic models(Prospex line).

Here are the new 5M82 models.

Here are a few picture of the SKA579P.

  1. Love the blue quarter bezel on that variant. Too bad they didn’t put a matching blue second hand on that model. Would’ve been perfect.

I still have my yellow dial BFK and it’s definitely a keeper now, since it’s discontinued.

Question Thomas. Do you know what the difference is between the older 5m62 and the newer 5m82 movements. Just curious.

    Thanks for posting those pics.

  3. All very nice watches. Does anyone know when the SKA371 changed over from capacitor to lithium battery? Was it dependent on the model year (2011 and later?), model type, or the movement type (5M62 vs 5M82)? Thank you.

  5. Do these newer SKA577 and SKA 576 use the same size bands 20mm like the previous 5M62 variants? Any shots of the SKA577 (red) with carbon fibre / red stitching and rubber straps?

  8. Thanks to your close up shots, I recently decided to get the SKA577 on pvd bracelet.
Would you know the part number of the rubber like on the SKA579? Been looking for it online but cannot find it.
Again, thank you for helping me decide because of these pics.
