This time round, I had the opportunity to handle this Seiko Kinetic diver which was released a few months ago in Singapore. This watch looks familiar because the standard black, pepsi, yellow and orange variants have been released a few years ago and have been nicknamed “BFK” aka Big Freaking Kinetic by collectors online. These BFK variants were powered by the 5M62 movement while the latest variants came with the newer 5M82 movement.
Ignoring bracelet/strap variants, here are the 5M62 models (hope I did not miss out any of them)
SKA369P / SBCZ013
SKA371P / SBCZ011
Note: SKA models are international models while SBCZ models are Japan domestic models(Prospex line).
Here are the new 5M82 models.
Here are a few picture of the SKA579P.

Love the blue quarter bezel on that variant. Too bad they didn’t put a matching blue second hand on that model. Would’ve been perfect.
I still have my yellow dial BFK and it’s definitely a keeper now, since it’s discontinued.
Question Thomas. Do you know what the difference is between the older 5m62 and the newer 5m82 movements. Just curious.
Thanks for posting those pics.
I’m not sure if there is any difference in the technical specs. I notice that when I press the pusher to check the power reserve, the second hand moves forward and slows down in the last 3-4 seconds before it stops. It takes a while for it to start ticking again.
that’s the power reserve indicator. where the second hand stops indicates how much is left. if it stops at 6, it’s full power, at 4; 2/3 rds power is left.
Thanks Thomas. Sounds like there’s not much difference in the new movement. I guess I was hoping to hear charging was more efficient and getting to a full charge was much easier 🙂
The difference between 5m62 and 5m82 is the so called instant start function, 5m62 is only one year whereas 5m82 is 3 years, hope I help.
Thanks for the info.
Thanks Thomas. Sounds like
All very nice watches. Does anyone know when the SKA371 changed over from capacitor to lithium battery? Was it dependent on the model year (2011 and later?), model type, or the movement type (5M62 vs 5M82)? Thank you.
Are they the same size as their older cousin ? Would be nice if it is 46mm with GMT function like the Prospex version.
They should be the same size.
It probably would be but why not just take the Prospex model? That watch is nicer imo.
I need the orange and yellow model..but i cannot find them any more in k2..any one has any idea where i can find them in singapore?
Seiko should really make this a big watch 45mm or larger. From what I’ve read, it’s same-old, same-old…
Do these newer SKA577 and SKA 576 use the same size bands 20mm like the previous 5M62 variants? Any shots of the SKA577 (red) with carbon fibre / red stitching and rubber straps?
I think the rubber strap is the same as the previous model.
Thanks to your close up shots, I recently decided to get the SKA577 on pvd bracelet.
Would you know the part number of the rubber like on the SKA579? Been looking for it online but cannot find it.
Again, thank you for helping me decide because of these pics.
