Besides round shaped watches, Orient makes a number of rectangular and tonneau shaped watches and I have looked at a couple of them here in the past.

This time round, I had the opportunity to look at the Orient LERAG001B, another rectangular watch by Orient. This model was released some time ago but it was only recently that I had the chance to see it.

The alphabets “LERAG” in the model number can be rearranged to form the word “LARGE” which best describes the watch.

Here are the measurements:
Width: 35mm excluding crown
Lug to lug: 46mm
Thickness: 13mm
Lug width: 28mm

This is the first time I see a 28mm lug width on an Orient watch.

This watch features a minimalistic dial design with white hour markers which are very legible on the black dial. The date window is located at the 6 o’clock position and above it is a simple inscription that says “Automatic” and “50m”. Besides these and the Orient logo, there is no unnecessary stuff on the dial.

The use of Arabic numerals is a good choice as it seems to be the de facto hour marker for rectangular watches.

Like the dial design, the case design is also a minimalistic one. It does not utilize fanciful cuttings that jacks up the cost. All it has is polished finishing throughout.

From the side profile shot below, you can see that the watch is not flat but slightly curved to provide a better fit.

The caseback of the watch is also curved and has brushed finishing to minimize slipping when watch is strapped on the wrist.

The caseback is secured by four screws at each corner. This method of securing the caseback provides better water resistance but the screws tend to rust in tropical countries.

Another type of caseback that Orient typically use for their rectangular watches is the snap-on type which does not provide much water resistance compared to the method above.

The watch comes with a matching black leather strap with contrasting white stitches. The strap is 28mm at the lugs and tapers to 22mm at the buckle.
