Seiko Prospex MM200 – SPB185J1 and SPB187J1

This time round I handled the new Seiko Prospex model, SPB185 and SPB187. This model has been nicknamed “MM200” by the watch community because it has a case design that is similar to the Marinemaster 300. It has a diameter of 42mm and a thickness of 12.5mm. Lug width is 20mm and lug to lug distance is 49mm.

Below are my views on this watch.

1. The blue dial model is more popular but I actually prefer the model with black dial and silver bezel as it has a solid metallic feel to it.

2. I like the fact that the minute markings are printed on the dial instead of being printed on a minute chapter ring. Elimination of the minute chapter ring makes the watch look better as well.

3. The watch has good size and proportion and honestly, there aren’t any flaws that I can find.

Here are some pictures of the SPB185J1 and SPB187J1.

  1. Finally a very nice design with all the bells & … but for me flawed by a small 42mm size… There is a group of people who need 44+ mm watches, so maybe later… Or maybe upgrade some existing bigger ones with ceramic bezel & sapphire crystal, that will do as well.

  2. Hi Yeoman, it’s been a long time since I’ve following your website, thanks for the great & brief review as usual.. Btw I’d like to ask you, whether the bezel allignment on this SPB185 is correct? I mean to the 12 o’clock marker on the dial. Seiko dive watches often has problem with this allignment, even for this price level. Appreciate if u could share ur experience on this watch, thanks so much.
