This time round I had the opportunity to check out the Seiko Urushi Byakudan-nuri Limited Edition Presage model, SPB085J1. This watch comes with a lacquer dial created using traditional and the Byakudan-nuri techniques. The colours scheme is inspired by the colour of the sky and moon at dawn.
This series of Presage models characterized by their case design has been around for a few years. I’m not sure if it is official but it is known as the Artisan series among Seiko fans. Besides lacquer dial, there are other models that come in enamel dial, shippo enamel dial as well as regular dial.
They come in various complications depending on the movement used. So far, there are 6R15, 6R27, 6R24, 6R21 models, as well as a chronograph model using the 8R48 movement.
This particular model comes with black lacquer dial with the maroon colour sub dials. Legibility is very good due to the white hands and hour markers. It is limited to 2000 pieces worldwide.
Compared to the current Cocktail Presage models, the Artisan series comes with higher specifications and hence a higher price point. Key features are:
– 6R movement
– sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating
– crocodile strap with deployant buckle
Diameter: 40.5mm excluding crown
Thickness: 12.8mm
Lug width: 20mm
Lug to Lug: 47mm
Movement: 6R21
