This time round I had the opportunity to handle the Orient Star WZ0031DD. This watch is a collaboration between Orient and Subaru for the 55th Anniversary of the Subaru 360, a two-door car that was marketed in 1958.
Below is a picture of the 1958 Subaru 360.
The WZ0031DD is powered by the Orient 48C40 handwind movement. The colour of its dial is similar to that of the 1958 Subaru 360 shown above.
You can see the vintage Subaru logo on both the dial and the crown of the watch. Notice that Orient has put its vintage logo on this watch instead of its modern logo.
As a handwind model, the watch is pretty thin. It has a slightly curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.
The watch has a snap-on caseback which has the side profile of the Subaru 360 engraved on it. It is limited to 250 pieces.
It comes with genuine crocodile strap with signed Orient Star buckle.
Besides the WZ0031DD, there is also a gold tone variant, WZ0041DD which is also limited to 250 pieces.
Here are a few more photos of the WZ0031DD.
Diameter: 37.5mm

Here’s a Orient Star handwind model that uses the same case:

Very nice retro styled watch, I like the colour of the dial and the convex crystal. The dial is unusual and distinctive without being “weird”. The case is also very elegant, classic and understated, with nice lines.
