Orient celebrated its 60th Anniversary this year. Besides the 60th Anniversary handwind models, there was also a pair of quartz ‘Swimmer’ models released in the Thailand to commemorate the event.
The Orient Swimmer is a basic quartz watch that features 100m water resistance and a screw in crown. This product line is sold in the Japanese market but the Thai Orient distributor made arrangement to produce a 60th anniversary model for the Thailand market. Like the handwind models, the commemorative Swimmer model has the “Orient 60th Anniversary” printed on its dial in cursive font.
Here’s a photo review.
The caseback does not specify how many pieces were produced but I heard it was 1500 pieces.
Diameter: 37mm excluding crown
Thickness: 9mm
Lug width: 20mm

Very classy. I wish it was 40mm, 37 is a tad small for me. Still, I love the classic and pure look. Great to have a screw down crown too.

I guess it was targeted at people with smaller wrist.

The white dial makes it appear bigger, though a 39mm or 40mm would be my own personal preference. Don’t they offer this with a mechanical movement? And I find the name, “Swimmer”, to be a little inappropriate for a watch that looks more like a dress watch than a diver’s watch. Well, that’s just my own personal opinion.
Cheers!

Hi jun cajayon,
They have a handwind model which I blog about here:
https://yeomanseiko.wordpress.com/2010/08/03/orient-60th-anniversary-limited-edition-watch-dt00002w/
This watch is not a diver but it was made for user to swim with it in the swimming pool and hence the name ‘Swimmer’.
Best regards,
Thomas

A small quantity was sold to the distributors in the region. Big Time in Singapore got some directly from Orient. The distributor in Malaysia probably got some as well.
