Seiko Mechanical – SARC019

Here’s a JDM Seiko that I had the opportunity to handle recently. It comes under the Mechanical line and is powered by the 6R21 movement. The salient features of this watch are:

1. Enamel dial
2. 28,800bph movement
3. Power reserve indicator
4. Hack and handwind
5. Crystal with “legs”

Here’s a quick photo review.

  2. Enamel watches made by Seiko is one of the best value watch you can get from the Japanese manufacturer. Enamel (ceramic/clay) (the dial surface) has to be baked so they are hand-made. In the process of making, many of the enamel will crack and be rejected, resulting in high cost of making. Very few watch manufacturers made enamel watches. Patek Philippe make 500 maximum a year in one of its basic calatrava model and it is retail at more than USD20,000. The SARC019 is brown/chocolate color enambel dial whereas the CSAR017 is black color enambel dial. I am not sure the white color CSAR018 is enamel or not. I have the SARC019 chocolate/brlow dial. It is quite beautiful. You can tell it is clary/ceramic and it is hand-made. Seiko mechanical line has another older version of enamel dial watch, but I just check the website it is not longer listed so maybe it has stopped production.

Thomas I believe you have an even older model (produced under the Brightz line). That is really a collectable ! One day if you want to sell, please let me know.

    • Hi Danny,

I thought only the SARC019 in this series has ceramic dial. The 017 and 018 probably don’t.
The older version you are referring to should be SARC011. That is a beautiful watch too.
Yes, I have a Brightz model that has ceramic dial and that is the SAGL001.

      Best regards,
      Thomas

      • Hi Thomas,
You are right. I have the SARC019 and it is confirmed enamel with chocolate/brown color clay dial. I have the SAEC011 which is enamel black dial. But it is a small watch.
        Many thanks for your clarification.
        Cheers,
        Danny

  3. Dear Thomas, I just confirmed SARC011 is a enamel black colour dial. I have the watch in my collection as well. The Japanese official website of Seiko has removed the watch from their mechanical watch collection so maybe it is no longer in collection. Like what I have said earlier, it is a smaller watch (the SARC019 is probably 42mm whereas SARC011 is probably 37mm). Cheers, Danny in Bangkok
