Seiko Superior – SKZ297J

I reviewed a couple of Seiko 5 models in my last few posts and some people commented that they prefer not to have the ‘5’ logo on the dial. So, this time round, I will post a 7S36 model that does not have the ‘5’ logo.

This is a fairly recent model that comes under the Superior line with model number starting with “SKZ”. Let’s take a look.

Below is a shot of the partially textured dial. You can clearly see the “Made in Japan” inscription at the bottom of the dial. The hands are identical to those found on the SARB043 and the font used on the “Automatic” word is also identical to that found on the 6R15 models. This watch is probably made in the same factory that produces the 6R15 models and you probably will not find any ‘K’ version around.

Here are a few self explanatory side profile shots. It has polished finishing on the entire case.

Unlike most 7S dress watches that has see-through casebacks, this watch comes with a solid stainless steel caseback. Coupled with the Sapphire crystal and 10 bar water resistance, this is pretty much a bomb proof dress watch.

It is installed with a black leather strap and signed buckle.

Below is the list price of the watch in Singapore currency. It is distributed in Singapore by distributor, Thong Sia Group. (Note: price is shown for reference only. I am not a watch seller)

Diameter: 39.5mm excluding crown
Thickness: 11mm
Lug width: 20mm
Water resistance: 10 bar

  1. Looks like a very nice watch at a nice price point. A google search turns up nothing so I’m assuming retailers don’t have it yet. I wonder if there are any dial variants. I’m going to be keeping an eye on this one.

    • Hi Michael,

You should be able to see photos of the other variants if you do a image search on Google. Search for the these model numbers: SKZ287, SKZ289, SKZ290, SKZ291, SKZ293 … SKZ300.

I believe most retailer do not have it yet as it is a fairly recent model.

      Best regards,

  2. Great pictures, Thomas. Looks very elegant. Size is just right for a dress watch and I love the applied numerals and index markers. If I were allowed to change things a bit, I would make the chapter ring thinner as it seems too deep. Moreover, the big day/date window somehow clutters the beautiful dial texture and design. This watch would look better without the day/date window and with a complete set of 3,6,9,12 numbers on the face. Hope you can add the different dial colors to your post, Thomas.

    Thanks!

    • Hi jun,

I agree that complete set of 3,6,9,12 on the dial would look nicer. Date window should ideally be above the 6 o’clock marker. Something like this 4R15 model, SRP023 but not 6 eater.

  3. Hi,
I believe the Day Display is English Arabic, as I have seen most MIJ Seiko 5 Sports
is produced this way. Hope that I guess wrong.
