This time round, I am looking at an interesting silicon NATO strap from cheapestnatostraps.com. This strap is made from soft silicon rubber and is available in several colours.
The strap comes with a polished buckle, two polished metal rings and two movable silicon rings or keepers if you will. It is 26.5cm long excluding the buckle and 1.1mm thick.
This is a one-piece strap so installation is pretty easy. Simply put the end through the lugs at 12 o’clock and put it back up through the lugs at 6 o’clock. The strap runs underneath the watch as shown below.
The silicon rubber provides some friction that helps to prevent the watch from sliding off when you are holding it vertically. Of course, you still need to be careful when doing so especially with a heavy watch or a watch with a big lug gap.
One interesting feature of the strap is that it has fine texture that mimics the texture of a nylon NATO. The texture is very fine and covers the entire length of the strap on both sides.
Another interesting feature of the strap is that all the rings including the metal ones are removable. The buckle is removable as well if you need to change it by yourself.
In the picture below, I have removed the metal and silicon rings. The metal rings are attached to the strap by the spring bars as you can see.
The removable rings make it possible to customize the strap to the owner’s preference and wrist size. Those with smaller wrist can wear the strap as is. Those with bigger wrist may consider removing one of the metal rings.
I am wearing the strap with one metal ring and one movable silicon ring. Below are some pictures of how it looks like on my wrist. (My wrist size is between 7″ to 7.25″)
You can tuck the tip of the strap into the metal ring and silicon ring, or just the metal ring alone, depending on your preference. With a silicon NATO, there’s no right or wrong way as long as you are comfortable with it.
Now let’s see how my Seiko Turtles look like on these straps.
Here are a few wrist shots of the Seiko divers on the strap.

Any idea how these compare to WatchGecko/Bonetto Cinturini rubber NATO?

Bonetto Cinturini is a well known rubber strap maker and their NATO strap looks very well made. You get what you pay for.

How is the buckle? I saw from YouTube, after wearing it for a long time, the buckle will be irritating as it protrude out.

So far I have not encountered any issue with the buckle on any Zulu or NATO strap.
