So far, I have featured the following 4R based watches on this blog:
4R35 – Seiko Presage SARY005
4R36 – Seiko 5 World Time SRP127K
4R37 – Seiko Superior SSA003K
This time round, I handled a 4R38 powered Seiko Presage with open escapement feature. This watch shares the same case as the SARY005 (link above). The SARY005 was initially market as a JDM model under the Mechanical line. It is now moved to the Presage line and marketed as an international model.
Here’s a quick pictorial review of the SSA017J.

Wow! That’s a very beautiful gentleman’s dress watch!
The sunburst dial with the keyhole showcasing the escapement is a nice touch. Kind of looks like a tourbillon movement. ;-p
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Ian. The sunburst effect reminds me of the SARB065.

Try timing it for a day and see how many seconds it gains.

it gain 20 second in 6 hours.
its kinda scared me, last time my watch is faster 5 minutes in just 2 days.
do i need to repair it or?

I think it is because you dropped it. You need to get checked by a watchmaker. Most likely needs to be regulated.

Every 6 hours it gains 20 second, thats too much right?
Actually last time i dropped my presage to a hard surface, is it because of that?
i really love my watch, but then this problem annoys me.

Check with you, how does this watch fare in terms of accuracy? Kind of an issue for me due to the poor factory specs.
Thinking of pulling the trigger on the gold version!
Anw, great blog!

This is not my watch but I have other 4Rxx watches and they are pretty accurate. I have yet to notice any huge daily gain/loss when I wear them.

Thanks for you reply!
Now the only headache is this or the sary005.. or both!

It is easier to tell the time on the SARY005 in my opinion.

Agree with you on that. Have about half a month to decide before i pull the trigger.
Last thing, do you have any idea if the gold on the SARY018 is rose gold?

It is rose gold according to Seiko’s site.

Run it through a translation site and you will see it.
