Orient Stylish and Smart Disk model – ER02005B

This time round, I handled a new Orient Stylish and Smart model. This model is the second one in the series which is targeted at the younger crowd. The watch features a rotating disk that replaces the traditional hour hand.

Here’s a quick look.

From the dial shot below, you can see that there is a disk at the centre of the dial. A triangular shape is cut on it to act as the hour indicator.

Setting time and date on this watch is exactly the same as any standard model with hour and minute hands as the disk rotates two complete rounds in 24 hours.

There is another layer underneath the dial and disk that provides colour to the hour markers. This layer also causes the hour indicator to change colour at different times of the day.

Here’s a walk through of the colour change starting at 12 o’clock.

Between 12 to 3 o’clock.

At 3 o’clock.

Between 3 to 6 o’clock.

At 6 o’clock.

Between 6 to 9 o’clock.

At 9 o’clock.

Between 9 to 12 o’clock.

Note that there is no lume on the hour markers and hour indicator.

The watch has a display back with blue crystal glass.

Here are a few side profiles and bracelet shots.

Diameter: 41.5mm excluding crown
Lug width: 22mm
Thickness: 11.5mm

  2. Hi Thomas,

Wow, this is an interesting concept. The ability of this watch’s “hour hand” to switch between white and green, signifying AM or PM is something very fresh – never seen anything like it.

Do you suppose the white portion (when it’s PM) is lumed and not just the green part? If it’s not, you can’t tell the hour during the daytime if you’re watching an afternoon matinee at the movie theater. 🙂

Would you personally buy the ER02005B or do you feel is this concept a bit over-the-top? I like this watch, but have never owned a watch with an ion plated black coating. I would probably buy this if Orient had an all stainless steel finish.

    cheers,
    Stratman

    • Hi Stratman,

There is no lume anywhere on the watch. You can’t tell time in the cinema with this watch.

The watch is targeted at young people and I’m not that young anymore :). However, i think it would work well as a casual watch for me if I were to buy it. The owner of Big Time actually wears the previous model. Looks perfectly fine on his wrist.

They do have two variants with ss finish but only in the Japanese market.

  4. Interesting complication and worth buying if just for the novelty of having/wearing something new and different. Wish that they could have lumed the 2nd layer of the disc, similarly to that of a “sandwich dial” of Panerai. This would have been more useful instead of having different white/green color combinations at various time of day.
