Orient launched three of its Orient Star models in the international market recently. The three models come with GMT, Retrograde and Open Heart features respectively.
In this post, I shall take a look at the GMT model, DJ00001B.
Below is a close up shot of the dial. It comes with applied hour markers and has a power reserve indicator at the 11 o’clock position and a date window at the 3 o’clock position. The long GMT hand is red in colour and contrasts well with the black dial. It can be set independently from the hour hand.
Besides the 24 hour markings on the dial, the watch also comes with an inner 24 hour rotating ring for keeping track of time in another timezone.
The crown at the 2 o’clock position has several functions. At the pushed in position, it is used to hand wind the watch. When pulled to the first click position and turned in clockwise direction, it sets the date. When turned in anti-clockwise direction, it sets the GMT hand.
At the second click position, it sets the time. The second hand will stop when the crown is at this position. The GMT hand will advance accordingly as you set the time. However, you can set it independently with the crown at the first click position as mentioned above.
The crown at the 4 o’clock position is used to set the 24 hour rotating ring. Once the rotating ring is set to the desired timezone, you can lock the screw-in crown to ensure that the ring stays at the set position. The mechanism here is designed such that the position of the rotating ring will not be affected as you screw in the crown.
Note that the crown at the 2 o’clock position does not screw in.

The watch is equipped with an oyster style bracelet with push button lock and solid end links (SEL).

Actually, I don’t consider this a large and heavy watch. It wears like a 40mm watch and feels lighter than a divers watch.

I bought this watch last week. It is really a great timepeace. But I would like to have another bracelet. More massive. What do you think is it possible to get it somewhere?

If you are looking for the same Orient bracelet, you can ask the Orient dealer to order it for you.
If you are looking for a more massive third party bracelet, I doubt there is any at the moment.

Wonderful pictures, and a great looking watch. How would you compare the overall feel, finish and heft of the watch to similarly priced watches in the Seiko SARB line – always recognising the Orient has an extra complication)?

As far as I know, this Orient Star GMT is more hefty than the SARB models from Seiko. Finishing is comparable if not better.

Hi Yeoman, thanks for maintaining this enjoyable blog. I understand that the internal versions of this watch have white or black dial with skeleton hands. I recently tried on a variant with silver dial and non-skeleton (i.e. solid) hands, do you know if this version is some sort of JDM or special edition?

I think those are JDM. They also come with a cyclop.
