Orient Multi-year Calendar – CEU07005WX

Multi-year calendar watch puts any month’s calendar on the watch and gives you instant answers to questions like “what is the date for next Friday?”, “what day does my birthday falls on?”. This is definitely a very practical function that a watch can offer besides telling time.

This time round, I had the opportunity to handle a multi-year calendar watch from Orient. Orient has been making these multi-year calendar watches for many years and they can be considered one of Orient’s signature pieces.

This piece that I handled is a recent model that comes with slide rule feature. Model number is CEU07005WX.

Below is a quick look at the watch:

The pusher at the 2 o’clock position is used to set the multi-year calendar.

The crown at the 3 o’clock position is a screw in crown and its operation is quite standard. At first click position, it set the date and at second click position, it sets the time.

Crown at the 4 o’clock position is used to rotate the slide rule.

At the top of the dial are seven vertical columns and the months from January to December are organized in the columns. Under the columns is a year disc containing years 2003 to 2024. To set the calendar to display say the month of November 2009, press the pusher at the 2 o’clock position until the ’09’ year on the disc is aligned to the column that contains the month ‘NOV’ as shown in the picture above. (Note: Year ’08’ is printed in red to indicate leap year.)

At the bottom part of the dial is another seven columns. The dates from 1st to 31st are organized into the columns like a standard calendar. At the top of the columns is a day disc containing the days from Sunday to Saturday. As you press the pusher, both the year and day discs will rotate. When the ’09’ year is aligned to the column containing ‘NOV’, the day disc will be set to a position that correctly display the calendar for the month of November 2009.

You can set the calendar without referring to an actual calendar up to year 2024. After 2024, you will need to refer to an actual calendar when setting the watch. Watch is never obsolete.

  6. It’s a shame they don’t actually explain the slide rule function in the book that comes with the watch. 4 bezels shown in the manual, this isn’t one of them.
