This time round, I had the opportunity to handle a new Seiko Superior model, SSA049K. This model is powered by the 4R37 movement characterized by a 24 hour indicator sub-dial.
Although not a diver, the design of this watch is very similar to that of the Seiko Monster. Here are some pictures.
Dial:
- Textured dial with hour and minute markers on a separate layer.
- The hour hand has red coloured frame instead of the minute hand.
- Triangle under the 12 o’clock marker is not a GMT hand.
Case:
- Crown at 2 sets date and time.
- Crown at 4 rotates inner compass bezel.
- Both crowns are non screw in.
- Side profile very similar to the Monster.
- Top bezel makes 60 clicks per round.
Caseback:
- See-through type.
Bracelet:
- Straight end type (no end links).

I was looking forward to this originally but the triangle puts me off. I don’t see it’s purpose.
Yeah, the watch should look nicer without the triangle.

This is a 2012 model. I don’t think they list every watch on their site. Most Seiko 5 and Superior models are not listed.
